Hailey’s Story – recent to oldest:
(as of November 2024)
Not that Hailey enjoyed dog shows, but the 2024 Vizsla Club of America National Specialty has a special event that celebrates the versatility of our breed. In order to qualify for the “Best in Review” competition, the participant must have dual titles in field and show. Hailey has not slowed down a bit at 12 years old, so we decided to enter. She certainly represents what this event showcases with both form and function. She showed like a superstar and was honored to receive “Best Veteran In Review.” What a thrill – so proud!!!
Hailey has run in National Events. She ran in the VCA National Field Events in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and at 10 years young in 2022! She also ran at the NVA National Championship in 2017. We have come so close, but were yet so far. Whether she was lost on point, got cacti caught in her paws or failed to honor through her brace mates retrieve on course, she has made me PROUD to always run full out with heart and passion and always in contention!!!
Back to her favorite thing to do, run as a gun dog, she started back to trials in the fall after her litter from Red . Picking up where she left off, she continued her consistency and placements for the rest of the year. In March of 2018, she was bred to Rocco and had 2 boys and 3 girls. She ran again in the fall and semi retired in 2019.
Hailey continued on winning and placing in many other trials until the summer of 2017 when she took another little time out to be bred to Red and had 7 puppies, 4 boys and 3 girls.
In the spring of 2017, Hailey won her Grand Champion open major by winning the hour long stake in PA, beating 13 very competitive dogs.
Hailey would continue to run as a gun dog earning over 40 placements. Given her incredible consistency and winning very large stakes, Hailey was awarded the #1 National Amateur Gun Dog of the Year in 2016 by the Vizsla Club of America. She was also awarded Ohio’s #1 Open, Amateur and Combined Gun Dog in 2016.
As of the beginning of 2015, Hailey took a little time out to become a mom. She was bred to Cody and had 9 puppies – 4 boys and 5 girls. After the litter was weaned, Hailey was back to work as a gun dog. Once again, not taking long, she had her first gun dog placement that November.
Now benched from juvie stakes in field trials, it was time to enter Hailey in a few dog shows. Well, that didn’t take long either. She finished her show championship from the bred-by class with 3 majors (including the Conestoga Vizsla Club Supported Entry), Hailey earned her Bred-By Championship (with me handling!) before 20 months old with very limited showing. And, she was also almost half way to her Grand Championship without even trying.
After entering only 8 field trials, Hailey earned all of her puppy and derby points on both the open and amateur sides. Those 8 trial placements were enough for her to be ranked in the national Top 20 Puppy/Derby List. She had tough competition, but Hailey ran like a gun dog from the moment she started. Mature, beyond her years, she was now done with juvie stakes – there was no need to continue chasing birds. Time to grow up and compete in gun dog stakes!
After being involved with field trialing many years ago, I decided to breed Maddy to Cutter to try to boost Maddy’s incredible desire in the field, while keeping her beautiful conformation. One never knows what one gets when one “plans,” right?
